*************************************************************** METADATA FOR CURTIS AND ROBINSON (2015) SPOT MAPPING DATA Authors: Jenna R. Curtis and W. Douglas Robinson Copyright 2015 Spot Mapping data stored in a separate CSV file: "CurtisandRobinson_2015_SpotMapping_Data.csv" *************************************************************** ID - Unique identification number given to each detection event SPCODE - Four letter species code for the bird(s) detected, based on ABA species codes DETCUE - Initial method used to detect the bird(s), regardless of later observed behaviors s: Singing (bird was first detected by hearing it sing) C: Calling (bird was first detected by hearing it call or vocalize, separate from singing) V: Visual (bird was first detected visually, not making sound) D: Drumming (bird was first detected by hearing it drumming) F: Fighting (multiple birds were first detected by seeing them fighting, or physically interacting in an agressive manner) P: Copulating (two birds were first detecting by seeing them copulating) CL: Calling, Flyover (bird was detected by hearing it call, bird was flying over and did not occupy site) SL: Singing, Flyover (bird was detected by hearing it sing, bird was flying over and did not occupy site) VL: Visual, Flyover (bird was detected visually, bird was flying over and did not occupy site) ALLCUE - All methods used to observe the bird(s), including behaviors observed after first or initial detection (This field uses the same behavioral codes as DETCUE above) AGE - Observed age of bird (NOTE: Birds were assumed to be adults unless evidence suggested they may have been otherwise) A: Adult (bird was after hatch year, no longer a juvenile) J: Juvenile (bird was still in hatch year) U: Unknown (bird was of unknown age, not enough evidence to confirm it was an adult or juvenile) SEX - Sex of bird M: Male F: Female P: Pair (two birds detected simultaneously, one of each sex) U: Unknown (bird(s) were of unknown sex, not enough evidence to confirm the sex as male or female) 2HR - Whether or not the observation occurred within the initial 2-3 hour survey period Y: Yes (bird(s) were detected within the initial 2-3 hour spot mapping effort) N: No (birds(s) were detected after the initial 2-3 hour spot mapping effort, during the time in which the observer re-transversed the site) INPLOT - Whether or not the bird(s) detected were physically within the defined boundaries of the site during the time of detection Y: Yes (bird(s) were located within the site boundaries) N: No (bird(s) were located outside of the site boundaries) REDET - Whether or not the bird(s) had previously been detected and mapped during that specific survey period Y: Yes (bird(s) had previously been detected and mapped during that specific survey period) N: No (bird(s) were not previously detected or mapped during that specific survey period U: Unknown (uncertain if bird(s) had previously been detected during that survey period or not, not enough evidence to confirm the bird was new or a re-detection) NOTES - Any relevant comments related to a bird detection NUM - Number of individuals observed during a detection event LAT_DD - Latitude of the geographic location of the bird during its time of detection. Given in decimal degrees, datum NAD 1983 LONG_DD - Longitude of the geographic location of the bird during its time of detection. Given in decimal degrees, datum NAD 1983 SITE - Four letter code of the site being surveyed during the time at which the detection occurred CONI: Coniferous MARS: McFadden Marsh MIXD: Mixed Deciduous OAKW: Oak Woodland WILL: Willamette River Park SET - Consecutive site visit number, 1-5. 1 being the first visit to that site, 5 being the fifth visit to that site SURVEY - Unique number value for each spot mapping survey, regardless of site. Each consecutive survey was given a unique number 0-25. DATE - Calendar date on which the bird detection(s) occurred. Given in format m/dd/yyyy START - Time at which the spot mapping survey commenced. Recorded in Pacific Time using 24-hour clock. END - Time at which the entire spot mapping survey was completed (including time spent surveying after 2-3 hour survey window) WEATHER - Any notes related to climate conditions during time of survey. Temp: Recorded in degrees Fahrenheit Cloud: Recorded as a percent of entire visible sky covered by cloud layer Wind: Recorded 0-4 on Beaufort scale Precip: Recorded as type of precip (none, rain, hail, etc.) OBS - Name of observer conducting the spot mapping survey. Recorded as First Initial, Middle Initial, Full Last Name Example: JRCurtis = Jenna Renae Curtis Note: JRCurtis was the only observer
