This readme file describes the variables in the two data files (Jill2.data.withzeros.csv, Jill2.data.averaged.csv) that were the basis of the above manuscript.
Jill2.data.withzeros.csv contains all trapping events except for traps that showed evidence of disturbance (likely by vertebrate scavengers).
Jill2.data.averaged.csv omits all traps that showed evidence of disturbance and all traps that caught no beetles (regardless of disturbance). 
In addition, if two successful trapping events occured at the same site and the same vertical location (0m or 6m) then we use an average of the two trapping events.

Station = ID name of trap location

round = corresponds to the first or second round of trapping at that station

Date = date trap was collected

Julian.Date = julian date that each trap was collected

vert.location = either ground or canopy, corresponding to where the trap was set (0m or 6m)

N.sayi = number of Nicrophorus sayi collected from each trap

N.orbicollis = number of Nicrophorus orbicollis collected from each trap

N.defodiens = number of Nicrophorus defodiens collected from each trap

N.tomentosus = number of Nicrophorus tomentosus collected from each trap

N.hebes = number of Nicrophorus hebes collected from each trap

N.pustulatus = number of Nicrophorus pustulatus collected from each trap

Ncrdes.surinamensus = number of Necrodes surinamensus collected from each trap

N.americana = number of Necrophila americana collected from each trap

O.inequale = number of Oiceoptoma inaequale collected from each trap

O.noveboracense = number of Oiceoptoma noveboracense collected from each trap

numb.spp = number of different carrion beetle species found in each trap

numb.beetles = total number of carrion beetles (individuals of all species) found in each trap
